This assignment was meant to teach the students about elements of composition of photography. Leading up to these photos, students had to take notes off of photography blogs, watch several videos about the art of composition, learn what not to do when photographing, and how to effectively use a digital camera on automatic mode. We also learned the powers of retouching through Photoshop. Depth of FieldThe grass outside of the high school, shot from the ground. LinesThe railing near the loading docks of the SWWC classrooms. PatternThe "unhealthy" vending machine. Rule of ThirdsThe American flag on a dark, cloudy morning. SymmetryWhere the couch meets the backboard. TextureThe bottle cap art above the library. BalanceTree against a sunrise. ColorShoelace art on the third floor. FramingJamie in a darkened doorway. PerspectiveA sewer grate shot from above. SpaceA plane flying overhead. From this assignment, I learned how to more effectively position my subjects in regards to the elements around them. I also learned that some of these composition techniques can be combined to create an even more interesting picture. Figuring out Photoshop was also a fun challenge, as I have never used it before for retouching pictures.
